A Message from the ARF Sebouh Gomideh
Twenty-five years ago, on the morning of September 11, 2001, the nation was forever changed.
The terrorist attacks against the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon, and aboard United Airlines Flight 93 took the lives of 2,977 innocent people. Thousands more were injured, families were shattered, and a generation of Americans witnessed a tragedy that would leave an enduring mark on our country.
Today, on the 25th anniversary of September 11, the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Sebouh Gomideh joins our fellow Americans in remembering those whose lives were taken and honoring the extraordinary courage displayed on that day.
We remember the firefighters, police officers, paramedics, members of our Armed Forces, and ordinary citizens who ran toward danger to save the lives of others. We remember the passengers and crew of Flight 93, whose courage and sacrifice prevented further devastation. We also remember the first responders, recovery workers, survivors, and families who continue to carry the consequences of September 11.
For those of us in the Greater Washington Armenian-American community, the attack on the Pentagon struck especially close to home. It happened in the community where we live, work, raise our families, and have built our institutions.
As Armenian-Americans, remembrance carries a profound meaning. Our history has taught us the importance of preserving memory and standing against hatred, violence, and attacks upon innocent civilians wherever they occur. In recent years, our own community has again witnessed this pain through Azerbaijan’s blockade and military attacks against the Armenian people of Artsakh, culminating in the forced displacement of more than 100,000 Armenians from their ancestral homes.
Armenian-Americans have proudly contributed to the United States for generations, including through service in our Armed Forces, public service, and the defense of the freedoms we share. On September 11, we stand alongside Americans of every background in honoring those who sacrificed for this country and those who continue to serve it.
On this solemn anniversary, the ARF Sebouh Gomideh extends its deepest respect to the families of those lost and its enduring gratitude to our first responders, members of the United States Armed Forces, and all those whose lives were forever changed on September 11, 2001.
May the memory of the victims remain eternal.
